How to help

This social enterprise is so new, we are seeking volunteer board members who are passionate about lifespan issues for individuals who live with autism; especially adults, 21 and older. This organization is based in Longmont, Colorado USA, but our plan is to reach across the country with our program model(s).

Our initial full Board of Directors will be comprised of Executive Director/President, VP, Treasurer, Secretary, and a minimum of 4 Directors. Please contact the founder and Executive Director, Michele M. Newman, at mnewman@autismincommunity.org if you are interested in helping strategize and develop this vision. If you have Skype, you do not need to live in Longmont or Colorado. Start-up Board members will be expected to contribute at least 10-15 hours of time per month in this critical phase.

We officially filed with the Colorado Secretary of State as a non-profit corporation on September 4, 2015. We have an EIN (Employer Identification Number) with the IRS; however, do not currently have the funds to file for our 501(c)3 non-profit exemption status. We plan to have a crowdfunding campaign on GoFundMe.com by first of October to raise funds to file with IRS and rent office cubicle in a local entrepreneurial incubator in Longmont.

SUPPORT ADULTS WITH AUTISM

Autism in Community is a NEW non-profit social enterprise, which was launched to create and develop inclusionary live/work/ support solutions, within communities, for adults living with an Autsim Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

OUR MISSION:

Our objective is to support all adults with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), who experience a wide variety of lifespan concerns. This will be done, in part, by developing an inclusionary approach. We will strive to provide programs and resources to assist in creating independence and a fulfilling quality of life, as determined by each individual. We don't "tell" individuals how to live their lives, but give them the tools and supports to make that decision for themselves.

To create a community-wide, inclusionary atmosphere, it is critical that we attempt to educate and develop awareness and understanding about ASD throughout the general community, at-large.

SAVE the DATE!!!

Our 1st Annual Adult ASD Strategy and Inclusion Conference will be held in Longmont, CO, from April 8-9, 2016. This will be 2 days of intense brainstorming between Adults with ASD (and their parents) and the community at-large to include business and civic leaders, educators, faith leaders, and medical and behavioral professionals. This will be to develop a strategic plan for participants to take back to their own communities, which will initiate plans to create better inclusion for the autism community and needs of the adult ASD population. If you are interested in getting on our event email list, please send your contact info to us.
